American Society for Indexing Announces Golden Turkey Award, and the winner is…
…Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue, which does not include an index, although several online attempts to provide one (serious and not-so-serious) have been made (see, for example, a not-so-serious index posted on Slate: http://www.slate.com/id/2235917/ and a somewhat more earnest attempt by the New Republic: http://www.tnr.com/article/politics/the-going-rogue-index).

The surprising incarnations of Strunk and White’s ELEMENTS OF STYLE
Today the New York Times has a piece on the 50th anniversary of the publication of Strunk and White’s Elements of Style, which was recently also the subject of some controversy generated by an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education. Whatever your opinion, it’s worth checking out the illustrated edition (featuring images by Maira Kalman) that came out in 2005. In fact, the publication of the illustrated edition was also the occasion for the performance of a song cycle (written by Nico Muhly) based on Strunk & White…. perhaps they’ll bring it back for the anniversary?

I’ve just added a new link to the EFA’s common editorial rates. These are good guidelines to follow when trying to determine what to pay or what to charge. Of course, many freelancers, including me, prefer to use a per-page rate based on a sample of the text.
